shemza.digital #6 reimagines the geometric forms of Anwar Jalal Shemza's City Walls series as an interactive light sculpture. Inspired by Anwar Jalal Shemza's abstract interpretation of South Asian architectural motifs, Aphra Shemza transforms these two-dimensional forms into a physical structure that can be experienced through movement, light and touch.
Using ultrasonic sensors and bespoke electronics, the sculpture responds to the proximity of its audience. As visitors approach, the illuminated acrylic structure gradually changes colour, enticing them to interact with the work. Their presence becomes integral to the artwork itself - the closer they move, the more the sculpture reveals - creating an experience shaped through dialogue, connection and participation.
