shemza.digital #5 reimagines the geometric forms of Anwar Jalal Shemza's City Walls series as an interactive illuminated archway. Building on his abstract interpretation of South Asian architectural motifs, Aphra Shemza transforms these two-dimensional forms into an immersive sculptural installation that invites visitors to walk through the work.
Using ultrasonic sensors and bespoke electronics, the archway responds to the proximity of its audience. As visitors approach and pass through the sculpture, the illuminated acrylic structure changes colour, encouraging moments of curiosity and exploration. Their presence becomes integral to the artwork itself—the closer they move, the more the sculpture reveals—creating an experience shaped through dialogue, connection and participation.
